I live in Europe where the veterinary costs are cheaper than in the US (I think). More than 30 years ago I took an insurance for the veterinary costs for my dog. It was quite expensive and when I finally needed it, I realised that neutering costs were not included unless if it was a medical necessity! Luckily my vet helped me out with the right documents or I would have paid all these years for nothing!
Afterwards I never took such an insurance anymore but I paid full attention to food, exercise and keeping the dog on leash to avoid accidents.
That way I could save up the insurance fee every month and I have never had more costs…
